John Trenchard C.Ss.R. is a Redemptorist with wide pastoral experience. He was ordained priest in 1971 and has led Parish Missions and Retreats throughout his priestly life. He worked with Redemptorist Publications for a number of years before being appointed their Publishing Director in 1981. During that time he wrote or co-wrote some of Redemptorist Publications outstanding titles. In 1987 he became a Parish Priest in the Westminster Diocese. He was elected as Redemptorist Provincial in England in 1997. Having served for nine years as Provincial he now returns to the role of Parish Priest, in London.

About the Author
Smith Wigglesworth (1859–1947) was born in England in 1859. Immediately after his conversion as a boy, he had a concern for the salvation of others and won people to Christ, including his mother. He became a plumber by trade, yet he continued to devote himself to winning many people to Christ on an individual basis. In 1882, he married Polly Featherstone, a vivacious young woman who loved God and had a gift of preaching and evangelism. It was she who taught him to read and who became his closest confidant and strongest supporter. They both had compassion for the poor and needy in their community, and they opened a mission, at which Polly preached. Significantly, people were miraculously healed when Wigglesworth prayed for them.

In 1907, Wigglesworth's circumstances changed dramatically when, at the age of forty eight, he was baptized in the Holy Spirit. Suddenly, he had a new power that enabled him to preach, and even his wife was amazed at the transformation. This was the beginning of what became a worldwide evangelistic and healing ministry that reached thousands. He eventually ministered in the United States, Australia, South Africa, and all over Europe. His ministry extended to the time of his death in 1947.

Every page is life changing.

I read this book about 2 years ago when I was 15yrs old, and then again, and I still haven't stopped. There is something new every time I read a sermon over. I have read many other books of Wigglesworth and his sermons and this has to be at the top of the list. This compilation of sermons would have to be his greatest in print. There is advice for every situation I'm ever in and I have decided to refer to this book for the rest of my life (second to the bible of course). Last night I read a chapter and it was one of the most awesome times I have had with God for a long while. God is so wonderful. I praise God for sending a man like him to meet the spiritual needs we have in the 20th century setting, and I pray he will contunue to send great men of God like Wigglesworth. I can't even begin to tell you how much his ministery has touched me. "Ever Increasing Faith" is a book that every person, young or old, must read. It reveals to us our place in Christ and confronts every reader with a dare ---- a dare to believe.

Smith Wigglesworth has been described as the "Apostle of Faith". This little book is evidence of the aptness of that description!
Ever Increasing Faith is jam-packed with sermons, eye-witness accounts of his ministry, and reflections on God's goodness, grace and power.
Wheelchair-bound children, old women with cancer, men deaf from birth, and thousands of others were miraculously healed by God during Wigglesworth's ministry. Seven people were raised from the dead, including Polly, Smith's wife.
What is most touching though, is to see his humility, his passion to glorify God, and his earnest desire to be closer and closer to Christ. He was an empty vessel, desiring to be more and more filled with the Holy Spirit. God used him in mightier ways than any other twentieth century evangelist. His wife Polly taught him how to read and the Holy Spirit taught him how to preach. And preach he did, doing the work of God, bringing thousands around the world to the place of wonder, of healing, and to salvation.
This book is a feast for anyone who is hungry for more of God.

Other than my bible, this 176 page paperback is the most dynamic, annointed word from the Lord that I have ever read. If you are desiring an increase in faith and belief in God, this book is for you. I read it every single day The Holy Spirit is so alive in this book through this mans ministry, and the holy spirit is quickened and comes alive almost the same as the prophets in the bible. It is a great encourager and good supplement reading. The annointed wisdom is priceless,...!

The perfect book for that awkward friend in your life

I have a friend that I'm going to call "Larry B." Well...Larry is actually his name but I'm obviously not going to tell you his last name since I don't want to embarrass him. I'm getting this book for him. Let me tell you a little bit about Larry. He is in his mid 40's and he collects Star Wars action figures (new and old). He has a special room in his condo where he displays them. He also has a row of empty Pepsi cans which feature characters from "Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace" He never recycled them. He kept them because he thinks they will be valuable someday. In his spare time, he attends porn-star conventions and takes pictures with famous stars from the porno industry. He likes to come over to my house and look at my photo albums all night, and never leave. He's never been married, and women run from him like the plague.

Where are the Big Publishing Houses?

Before reviewing "No Such Thing As a Lost Cause", I took the time to re-read the previous four books in this excellent series by Shelly Fredman. When I review a book in a series I ask myself some basic questions: 1) Does this author follow his/her own canon? 2) Do the characters develop or are they stagnant? 3) Does the plot relate realistically to the characters? After those questions are answered, I will read the book as a "stand-alone". A good story should shine all by its self, with or without a series to back it up.

Unlike some of the more popular "Heroine Based Cozy Mysteries" such as Janet Evanovch's "Stephanie Plum" series, Fredman makes her characters reach and grow. Brandy Alexander is egocentric albeit self-debasing. She has a good heart and tries to better herself. She believes in true love and keeps finding it over and over again. Her present and by far most intriguing love interest is a dark and dangerous Nick Santiago. The reader is torn between wanting this couple to succeed and dreading the consequences if they do.

The plot of "...Lost Cause" is contemporary and poignant and involves the cruel world of dog fighting and the reality of street gangs and drug smuggling. Fredman manages to make all this work and still keep the book light enough to stay in the "cozy" genre. The story is sexy without being about sex. It is violent without displaying the violence. It reads well and leaves great visual images in your mind. It is a true example of its genre. And I highly recommend it.

When will a major publisher pick up this talented and promising author? Given the proper backing Brandy Alexander could be this generation's Nancy Drew...all grown up and knee-deep in trouble.

Loved it, loved it, loved, loved, loved it. Another outstanding entry in the Brandy Alexander books. Despite the serious topic, Shelly Fredman once again brings delightful humor through the thoughts and antics of Brandy and her friends.

The fall out from an ill-fated ride-along weighs heavily on Brandy as she deals with her new relationship with Nick, accepting a new woman in Bobby's life, and trying to win over Johnny's new guy. When she discovers a disgusting twist in the already horrendous world of dog fighting, her increased awareness of the atrocity haunts her. In typical Brandy fashion, and over the concern of her friend. she feels compelled to take action against the horror of this so called sport. While trying to determine if a man who died in a hospital was, in fact, murdered, she encounters the more problems and greater danger. After all it wouldn't be a Brandy book is someone wasn't trying to kill her.

All of our regular friends are back offering her support. You have to love these guys. This books has the usual humor but there is also a feeling that these guys are growing up, even Brandy.

If you are a fan of Brandy and her friends you will love this book. If you are new to her world, hold on and get ready for a wild ride.

I have been eagerly awaiting book 5 since I completed book four. Even going as far as joining Shelly Fredmans' FB page so as not to miss the release. The past few days waiting for Amazon to release the book has been pure torture. I'm glad to say Ms. Fredman and Brandy have not disappointed me. What a great Christmas gift! Being enmeshed in the antics of Brandy and gang. And, Nick...hmm, all I can say is yummy! The only negative thing I can say is having to wait for book six.

Of all the Sophie King books that follow this formula: multiple characters tell intersecting stories--this is the most successful. The characters are (mostly) sympathetic and you root for each of them to find love again. Spoiler alert: they do.

Really fun read!

I received a copy of DIVORCE FOR BEGINNERS by Sophie King in exchange for an honest review.

Divorce for Beginners begins with Alison and David. Now that their youngest has flown the nest, Alison is looking forward to something calm and quiet, but it seems as though David has something else in mind. Then we meet Karen, who on the verge of busting at the seams after leaving her husband Paul, many years prior. She becomes the ideal candidate to start the "How to Survive Divorce" club. Then we meet Ed, who seems to be the sole person left that believes in marriage. Well, to be frank, he believes in it a little too easily because he has already done it three times. Throw in a woman named Lizzie and we have quite the group.

This book is quite the tale and ironically, even though I am happily married, I quite enjoyed myself. There are quite a few mysterious and secretive things going on behind the scenes and I thought that really added to the appeal. Then throw in some sibling issues, life with kids, parents, aging, dating and sex, and you have quite a recipe for an entertaining book. I really enjoyed getting to know each character on a personal level but I enjoyed them as a foursome even more. Overall, this story is very entertaining although it is often times quite sad. But, Sophie makes up for it in full with some great laughs and a lot of heartfelt moments.

I am torn about this book. I enjoyed the format: switching from one character to another and never letting the reader get bored with just one person's story. I liked the premise: different marital crises and how people react to them and how they recover and move on. I also thought the writing was excellent. But while I read it all the way through and found it to be a pleasant read, I didn't really care much for any of the characters and this kept me from getting really invested in the outcome. That said, this was a pleasant summer read and I will probably try other books by this author.
