Fantastic! I LOVED it!

I bought and read "The Last Single Girl" right after I finished "It's in His Kiss" and it met all of my expectations and then some. Of course I knew who Sarah was going to find true love with practically as soon as she met him but it didn't matter because her dating experiences kept me smiling throughout the entire book. This book not only had a HEA ending, it was deeply satisfying, as well. This book can be enjoyed by women of all ages; in fact, I think it would be perfectly appropriate for teenage girls, as well. The other reviewer mentioned that the book could be enjoyed by single women in their twenties, thirties and forties and I'm sure that's true, but it's too narrow an audience. I am a married woman (29 years) whose last dating experiences were long before the Internet existed, and I got a great deal of pleasure from reading this story. It is very rarely that I actually pay money for books any more but I'm very glad that I spent the $1.99; it was worth every penny. If you like your love stories with a lot of clean-cut humor, then Caite Quinn is definitely an author you should follow. Also, I recommend that you read these two books ASAP. Happy reading!

Absolute bon bon!!!

This novella was a TOTAL delight! What better way to unwind from the hectic holidays, than with the charming witticisms of Caitie Quinn and The Last Single Girl! Humor is spot-on and kept me grinning (particularly the Dating Truths), as we follow Sarah through the perils and pitfalls of internet dating. But moreover, it's also about the growing pains of friendships, and what happens when where we thought we'd be, isn't necessarily where we are.

Romantic, funny, and utterly satisfying. You will devour this book in one sitting, and root for endearing Sarah's wackily-ever-after every step of the way!

Lovers of Bridget Jones's Diary...NEED APPLY.

This was a really sweet romance that had me smiling and laughing, even feeling a little sad for Sarah and her emotions and struggle being the last single girl in her group of friends.

All of Sarah's close friends have gotten married and many of her acquaintance type friends have recently found boyfriends. All of her friends are scheduled to have a big girl's night on New Year's Eve. But because of all of them finding boyfriends they decide to turn it into a group date. Unfortunately Sarah is the odd one out who hasn't dated anyone in quite a while and has no prospects. Sarah assures Claire, the sort of ringleader and snotty character of the group, that she has a guy she's been seeing and is happy to go along with the group date. When in all actuality Sarah is terrified! What was she thinking? What were her friends thinking changing their plans just because they all found boyfriends?

Sarah turns to her best friend, who is married, for advice. What advice does her friend give? Online dating...

Sarah isn't sure if she likes the idea but feels pressured to find a date whom she can pass off as her boyfriend. So thus starts her e-dating experience. She finds a cute little coffee shop close to her home where she can meet up with her potential boyfriends and chat with them.

When she first comes to The Brew Ha Ha(coffee shop name) she meets the owner, John. He realizes right away that she is having a first date when guy #1 arrives.

The dates are all pretty humorous to read about and watch progressing into whatever they progress to(I don't want to spoil the fun for you). John steps in and saves the day or sits and talks to Sarah after each date and gives her advice for all the guys she sees.

Sarah continues to feel the pressure from her friends and her mom for finding the perfect guy but she is not sure what she should do or who she should choose.

When New Year's Eve arrives will Sarah finally have a date or will she show up single to the party?

It was a really cute read. There were a couple swear words and a very mild innuendo. But overall very clean. I downloaded a free copy from Amazon.

Eat this book.

This is my favorite Irish cookbook. Beautifully illustrated and filled with interesting cultural information as well as tempting recipes. It's nearly encyclopedic in scope, as well - a hefty book, obviously a labor of love.

In several recipes so far I've found that I need to alter the quantities of various ingredients to hit a home run. The Irish Stew was simple, but maybe the best I've ever had, however the first time I made it I used all the potatoes and cream that the recipe called for, and I didn't get a nice crust on top. Dial back the thickness of the potato layer and a little less cream (plus 2 cloves of garlic all minced up, because that's how I roll), and then it was perfect. Likewise a 'bunch' of kale is apparently smaller in Ireland than here in Washington, so my first crack at colcannon soup actually "tasted green" according to my guests. It was still good, but next time I'm going to try with less kale.

Also, several dishes include ingredients hard to find in my city. Not the author's fault, of course, and probably not an issue if you live in a big city, but there you have it.

Overall, I am very impressed with this cookbook and will return to it often.

Some Recipes Disappoint

As another reviewer mentioned, the quantities called for in some of the recipes are wildly incorrect.

Case in point: Battered Sausages. If you make it as written, you won't get a batter, you'll get a thick, elastic dough that will not coat the sausages. Cut both the flour and yeast quantities in half, and you're good to go.

I'm always nervous cooking from a book after I discover such an error. It means either that the recipes weren't tested, or the book was poorly edited.

A shame, because the book is gorgeous.

A delicious foray into a much overlooked cuisine

There is never a better time to break out the hearty soups and savory farmhouse bakes than in the dead of winter, and Country Cooking of Ireland helps cooks of all skill levels and experience do just that. Colman Andrews, the co-founder of Saveur Magazine and author of several cookbooks, brings together the very best of Ireland's cuisine in one irresistible volume.

From poultry to potatoes to puddings, no stone was left unturned in Andrews' quest for authentic recipes. It is a treat to not only cook from, but to read from cover to cover - tucked in between the recipes are pages profiling artisan cheesemakers, brewers, and bakers, gorgeous photographs of Ireland's rugged landscape, and engagingly written background information about the history of various ingredients and the specialties of the different counties.

In our test kitchen we tried out two recipes for a casual weekend dinner: glazed carrots and panhaggerty. The recipe for glazed carrots brought out their natural sweetness, and the simplicity of the recipe ensures that it will become a regular side dish at mealtimes in the future. We initially balked at the generous amount of butter called for in the panhaggerty recipe, but we gave it a try and were blown away by the extraordinary taste of this potato gratin dish. The potatoes, onions, bacon, and Irish cheddar played off one another marvelously.

Country Cooking of Ireland will come as a delightful surprise to both newcomers and old hands at the treat that is traditional Irish food.

About the Author

Dr. Cheng Siong Chin is a professional mechanical engineer with specialization in marine vehicle control systems design as well as the computer-aided engineering modeling and simulation of mechatronic systems. He worked in industry for seven years. In 2010, Dr. Chin joined Newcastle University for its BEng with honors programs in marine engineering as its first lecturer under the Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT). Dr. Chin is a member of the IET since 2001, a senior member of the IEEE since 2009, an elected executive member of the IET Control and Automation Network, and was the elected Honorary Auditor in the Singapore Branch of the IET in 2011. He is registered as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council and as a European Engineer (EUR ING). Dr. Chin is a member of the editorial advisory board of The Mediterranean Journal of Measurement and Control and the Journal of Marine Science: Research and Development. He has published 21 international journals, 10 conference publications, and three book chapters. Dr. Chin also has three U.S. patents and two trade secrets. He is certified in Six Sigma Green Belt and Design for Six Sigma (DFSS).

About the Author
Professor Mohan Munasinghe has post-graduate degrees in engineering, physics and development economics, from Cambridge University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, McGill University, and Concordia University. Presently, he is Chairman of the Munasinghe Institute For Development (MIND), Colombo; Vice Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Geneva; and Hon. Chief Energy Advisor to the Government of Sri Lanka, Colombo. From 1974-2002, he worked for the World Bank, Washington DC, in various positions including Director and Senior Advisor. From 1982 to 1987, he was the Senior Energy Advisor to the President of Sri Lanka. During 1990-92, he served as Advisor to the United States President's Council on Environmental Quality. He has implemented international development projects for three decades, and contributed to IPCC work for 15 years. He has won a number of international awards and medals for his research, authored over 80 books and several hundred technical papers, and serves on the editorial boards of a dozen international journals.

Dr Rob Swart was trained as an environmental engineer at Delft Technological University and received his PhD on the risks of climate change from Amsterdam Free University. He has held various positions at the Netherlands National Institute for Public Health and Environment (RIVM) since 1980, and also spent time working for the World Health Organization and the US Environmental Protection Agency. He has also worked on projects in the area of global change and sustainability for the Stockholm Environment Institute, the OECD and UNEP. He was Head of the Technical Support Unit of Working Group III of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and co-editor of the IPCC Third Assessment Report Climate Change 2001: Mitigation (2001, Cambridge University Press) and the IPCC Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (2000, Cambridge University Press). Currently, he is manager of the European Topic Centre on Air and Climate Change of the European Environment Agency.
