*Starred Review* For the first time in his life, Nick St. George has encountered a woman who won’t do exactly what he tells her to do. Ordinarily, no human being can resist Nick’s mind-compulsion powers, but for some odd reason, Daniella Delaney refuses to obey his command that she not open her cupcake shop in his Chicago neighborhood. Nick and the other members of his clan have the perfect setup in Vamptown, and the last thing they need is a bunch of inquisitive, cupcake-crazy humans. Hoping to get Nick to change his attitude, Daniella offers him an assortment of her scrumptious cupcakes, not realizing that although he is immune to sweets, he is more than tempted to take a bite out of her. Writing under a new pseudonym, the always entertaining Cathie Linz gracefully puts her own spin on the perennially popular vampire romance. Featuring a yummy bad-boy hero and a feisty heroine, and expertly seasoned with Linz’s sharp sense of humor, the resulting romance is a delectable treat for readers who enjoy sexy romances that slant to the lighter side of the paranormal subgenre. --John Charles

4.5 Stars all the way!
By Crystal's Many Reviewers
There's one thing that everyone loves, and that's desserts. Isn't it? That is what Daniella Delaney thought when she had decided to open up her cupcake shop, but it seemed as though the people in the neighborhood didn't agree with her. But honestly, what person doesn't like cupcakes??? Nick St. George seemed to have other things in mind though, making it completely obvious that he wanted nothing to do with her cupcakes.

Nick St. George had a huge secret, and it wasn't just his to keep. No matter how strong the attraction he had towards Daniella was, he knew he couldn't be with her. He couldn't let her find out that he was a vampire. Or that most of the businesses around were run by vampires as well. But things don't always go the way he wants, when he realizes that he can't compel her, that changes the game completely.

Stuck between trying to keep her safe, as well as keeping the secret safe as well, he will have to choose between keeping her alive, and keeping everyone else alive. Who knows what would happen if the world found out that vampires were living around them?

Oh my gosh, I have to say completely here, there is such a twist in this book, if you are looking for a dark and gloomy book, this isn't the one for you. The sarcasm that Daniella's character has, will keep you laughing. The depth of Nick's character will keep you guessing, and of course, the sexual tension between the two of them is off the charts HAWT!!!

I have said before, it seems that with the way so many books out these days have vampires and other paranormals in them, I honestly do say that Cat was able to insert her own twist on things. She made her book stand out from the rest of them for sure. Once I started reading this book, I couldn't put it down because I just wanted to know what happened next.

It was almost as though you thought you had the book figured out, and then she was able to throw another twist in there that had you going "NO WAY!!!!"

This is the first book that I have read by her, and I do have to say, especially with the teaser for the second book in the series at the end, I will be reading more of her to come!!!

Silly and Quick Read
By Carrie Williams
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Overall, this was a fun read. If you're looking for a silly and quick read, I'd recommend this book to you. Now, on to the nitty gritty:

This book had some really great wit and funny moments, but it really felt a bit ... rushed? I'm having a hard time putting into words what made me not really fall in love with this series. It wasn't the title, although it did give me pause to read something with "entity" in the title. I love vampires. I love humor in my paranormal romance books. I love smut. This book had all three of those things, but something just didn't work for me.

The dialogue between Suz and Daniella was great. The dialogue between Pat and Bruce (and the rest of the Vamptown Council) was great. The story had a lot of sizzle and mystery. I guess for me, the main problem I had was with the interaction and story development for the two main characters. Daniella was a great main character - peppy, funny, and strong willed. Maybe it was really Nick that was the problem. I get that he was supposed to be a hard to read character, but he came off sort of like a robot. His dialogue was short and clipped and we really didn't get to see a lot of what was going on in his head. This led to a story that was a bit disjointed, probably like my review. One minute Nick and Daniella hate each other, the next minute they are getting hot and heavy, then they're lying to each other, then they love each other. I guess I need more "foreplay" than that in my paranormal romance. If the scenes were just a little longer and we got some more insight into how the characters ended up where they did, it could be a really great read.

A light and yummy read
By Lisa Anne
My recap:

Daniella Delaney is determine to open her cupcake shop in one of Chicago's quieter districts. But Nick St. George, head of the local business association, is just as determined to prevent Daniella from opening her shop in his neighborhood.

Because they don't eat cupcakes in Vamptown.

And Nick needs to keep his clan's secrets ... well, secret. Or the lives of his vamps will be at risk.

Usually Nick would simply control Daniella's mind and send her on her way. But he discovers that she is mysteriously immune to mind control. Word about her immunity to vamp compulsion gets out, and she's suddenly a wanted woman. Nick wants her, too, but for a different reason. But he must fight his attraction to Daniella.

Or he could be the death of her.

My thoughts:

Daniella is a chatty, fun, funny character with many clever lines. The humor is tongue-in-cheek and subtle, never entering into slapstick or over the top territory. The book is a witty, light read.

Nick plays Daniella's brooding, dark, straight man to Daniella's sunshine. He doesn't think of himself as an honorable hero, but he is one just the same.

Between the humor, the development of the relationship between Nick and Daniella, the danger Daniella faces, and the mystery of her immunity to mind control, the book moves along at a good clip. It's a fast read.

This is a very tempting book, in more ways than one. The descriptions of Daniella's various cupcakes will make your mouth water and send you to the kitchen to whip up a batch of blood red velvet cupcakes.

Make mine with cream cheese icing, please.
