5 Tear-filled, Metal head, heartwarming stars!

"You've got this...this love-no, it's louder than love. It's passion and beauty built up inside you that deserves to burst out."

Widow with child and a washed up, recovering addict rock star of the 80's is the heart of Louder Than Love. Set with New York as the pulse, this book has won me over heart and soul. Or heart and metal as the case may be.

There is just so much to say and I want to do it justice in highlighting every phase of this book and yet give nothing away. There are many lives lived within the pages of this book and what comes together in the end is nothing short of a passion for life that is Louder Than Love!

Tree, or Katrina, is a grieving widow just trying to make a life. It's been three years since the death of her husband and the pain is still fresh. The reader is taken through the tragedy of the loss told through Katrina's memories. It really is painful to process. As a wife and mother you can empathize with her. I was in tears and was only 10% into the book. That really says a lot about this author. How do you go on after the love of your life dies and he only experienced the first year of your child's life? How do you keep his memory alive for your child so that they know what a wonderful and loving person he was? How do you do this and still move on with your life?

Abbey, Katrina's daughter, has a serious addiction to a cat named Maxwell MacGillikitty a PBS cartoon character. The theme song of this show is catchy and Abbey does her best to sing loud and proud in her four year old voice. Katrina stumbles across a CD of the song along with other songs performed by the artist and sets about finding and enlisting him to play at her library as part of a childrens program. Little did she know the artist performing on the cd was a washed up recovering addict with a litany of unresolved problems.

I know what you are thinking..... As a mom I thought it too. Are you really going to bring this mess into your life especially with a young daughter? But what happens next is so real, so real life, so therapeutic for both these people. One of the things I love best about this writer is that there is no "insta" anything but attraction. Everything else plays out like it should. One day at a time. Katrina puts her child's needs first, her desires second and along the way discovers how to rebuild her life.

Adrian "Digger" Graves, was a 80's rock star living the life of 80's excess. Burned out and trying for anonymity he reluctantly responds to an invitation to play acoustic guitar under his real name. A sound track he originally made for his now grown and estranged daughter has garnered some attention from a librarian. Originally from the UK Adrian's funny and sexy British slang and accent made me grin. But his back story that is revealed throughout Louder Than Love gives you an insight into the 80's world of rocker excess and the money making executives that would do anything to keep the cash cow moving. Living a life after the thrill is gone is a lot harder. Regret, embarrassment, threat of poverty, wasted opportunity and alienation of friends and family. It's a heavy story and one told by the art tattooed on Adrian's body.

Louder Than Love is a story of two people, three really as Abbey is very much a main character as well. And I gotta say she is written so real. Not as a fluffy side note. This is an amazing story and I loved being along for the ride. It's not sex with a side story either so if you are looking for this to be in the realm of "new adult angst" you are not gonna get it here. These are older more mature people reflecting on, moving on and rebuilding their lives. Having said that when there is sex..... It's gooooood! (winky face)

Touching, beautiful, rich, and real!

To say I am a fan would be an understatement. Jessica Topper's words are so beautiful I want to squeeze them and rub them on my skin. She digs deep into emotion, unearthing layers of character and adding rich detail. If you are a writer, you will pause and marvel at her descriptions. You might have a flash of jealousy, but then you'll just be glad she wrote it, so you can read it. My god, the treadmill scene will turn you inside out. It levels me every time.

LOUDER THAN LOVE is sexy, too. Like old school rocker sexy. Adrian has been there, done that, has regrets, but will rock your world. Did I mention he's British? And Kat is real - and funny - and smart. And her young daughter is charming. Kat has a posse of BFFs, too. Add all that together and you have a smart, sexy, surprising, heart wrenching read. This book will make you crave bagels and a trip to NYC. (Topper loves her NYC and you will feel it's magic.) You'll want to have coffee with your best friend and meet up in an iconic hotel with a new lover. You will want to listen to the Beatles, even if you don't like the Beatles. Or maybe you'll find yourself listening to heavy metal music because you want to get a little closer to Adrian...

This book is a journey for characters and reader. Take it. You will not regret it. (Unless you think it's a New Adult book. Then you might be a little confused, but I bet you'll still love it!) I loved this book!

Fantastic! Emotional! Mature!

Okay, wow. First of all, I totally misread the blurb because this book wasn't anything like I expected it to be. You know that moment when you go to take a big sip of your drink thinking it's Coke, but get a mouthful of sweet tea, and you are just like wtf? Well, that's how I felt. I like sweet tea...like, a lot, so no harm, no foul. I just was expecting Coke.

So, for whatever reason, I expected a rock book. You know, typical rock book. All manwhore rock guy with groupies everywhere and poor, helpless heroine trying to steer clear, but making stupid decisions anyway. That is soooo not what this book is. Honestly, this book was a breath of fresh air. It was emotional. It was deep. It was charming. It was mature! It took me a little while to get into it, but once I did I was hooked. I loved Katrina and Abbey. Both were beautiful and some moments took my breath away. There is just something about a book based on a widow and her child that sucks me in and grabs ahold of my heart. It took a little while for me to like Adrian, but I fell in love with him. His flaws, his reclusiveness, his booze, the whole kitten caboodle. His tenderness with Abbey, oh man. To die for.

This book was refreshing and different and for that, I say hats off to you Jessica. It was beautifully written and just so....real and tender. You made me a believer in second chances, that's for sure!

The Peter Pan character first appeared in Scottish novelist J. M. Barrie’s novel A Little White Bird, published in 1902. The chapters about Peter Pan were a story within the story. In 1904, Barrie’s stage play Peter Pan, or The Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up debuted and enjoyed great success. Following up on this success, Barrie extracted the Peter Pan chapters from A Little White Bird (which was a book for adults), and published Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens, a children’s book, in 1906. The book was illustrated by Arthur Rackham, who had previously illustrated Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Barrie expanded and adapted his stage play into a novel, which was published in 1911 as Peter and Wendy, with illustrations by F. D. Bedford.
Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens is very different from the idea most of us have of Peter Pan (thanks in great part to the Disney film and the Mary Martin Broadway musical). In fact, Peter is only seven days old in this book!

Nice little cookbook!

I have been badly burned in the past by the hideous typos, awful layout, and the lack of pictures when buying Kindle versions of cookbooks that were originally published in print. (The automated digitization conversion process butchers cookbooks.) But this book caught my eye because it was written and designed for the Kindle. And lo! I wasn't disappointed! Great little cookbook. Super-looking recipes, images, layout, and photograhs. And the price is right!

Delicious recipes!!!

So far I have made the Pan-Roasted Chicken with Mushroom-Fines Herbes Sauce and the Chicken with 20 Cloves of Garlic and both were OUTSTANDING!!! It has inspired me to have a small dinner party next week. I love these recipes. They remind me of the food I ate growing up: Low and Slow French cooking. My purple Le Creuset Braiser has been getting a workout with this book. Can't wait to try all the other recipes!!!!

Wini Moranville's recipes are ones that I return to over and over. This one and her "Bonne Femme Cookbook" are staples in my kitchen. Wholesome, simple ingredients, easy to follow recipes that taste great for everyday or for guests. I highly recommend her work!

Pretty Good

For a free book this is not bad at all. It has many interesting facts that have not been overturned my new evidence. For a layman this is decent introduction to the Hitties and will probably be the only book he or she will want or need to read. I was quite impressed by how much was already known about them by the turn of the century. I expected far less. It's fairly engaging for a text on an ancient people. Thanks to the large amounts of written material left by the Hittites a riveting narrative can be constructed around them. The author did not strike me as overly religious. He used the Bible as a source document written by a culture that interacted with the Hittites; he readily admits that it contains very little useful information. Sayce does a fine job. It is a wonderful piece for a completest or for a hobbyists. Those who straddle the two extremes should avid it.

Very dated historical account

This account was made in 1890, in the very infancy of archaeological exploration of the Hittite civilization. The author himself was part of the vanguard of archaeologists exploring the ruins and vestiges of the Hittite culture. Because of the age of the account, much of what is known now was at that time conjecture. Many of Sayce's speculations have since been proven wrong. The book does provide insight into the process of trying to understand a civilization with limited resources, vandalism or theft of significant artifacts, and governmental bureaucracy. Although I would not recommend it for information on the Hittites, it is an interesting story of the early students of this enigmatic people.

Appeared and vanished ! But yet we search !

Through this book I felt I was part of the early discoveries and progressive deciphering of the Hittite texts and Hittite carvings. After seeing the National Geographic Special on the Hittites I needed to find out more of the history of this Nation and to go through the early research as presented by this book. I immediately found myself transported in time.

Good presentation of a great story ...

I've loved this book since I stumbled upon it a number of years ago. I'm not usually a fan of short stories, but this one is so tightly plotted and suspenseful that it feels like you've finished an entire book by the time you're done. This reading is a good one - the narrator has a fairly deep and slightly rough voice that is a great match for the subject, and he rachets up the tension just enough as the story progresses. It's a great short listen!
