Sixty-eight seconds.
Can a life be lived in sixty-eight seconds? Can the love of a lifetime be discovered and lost in just a minute?
Mikah Bauer stepped into the street in front of the Glasgow Museum of Modern Art and found herself lost in a nightmare that became a dream come true when Ian Conagham, the Marquis of Ayr appeared before her. Mikah found herself living another life, a fairy tale of love and passion such as she never imagined.
Then came the nightmare that tore it all away as quickly as it fate had handed it to her.
A tale of love found and lost in a highland castle.

Until we next meet....
By Tbascoebuzz
Since she was a small child, Mikah Bauer had dreamt her entire life of Scotland. Even though she has never been there, she's had vivid dreams of Scotland's countryside, cities and townships....Castles and architecture. She dreams of Ian Conagham in particular although she has never met him before and she doesn't know his name (in her dreams). But she always dreamt of him and she fell in love with him. Her dream fantasy man.

Mikah is a museum curator from Milwaukee and her job sends her to Scotland for work related purposes. Even though Mikah has never physically been to Scotland in her life - - everything is familiar to her. She repeatedly experiences feelings of "deja-vu". When she is hit by a car, she is thrust into the year 1856 and into the familiar body of Hero Conagham. Mikah and Hero both in the same body. Reincarnation....or fantastic delusion? Or possibly journeying into another persons very body and mind in another era? What ever the case may be, Mikah is aware that she is within the body of Hero and her first impulse is to fight to be the dominant personality. But the harder she tries, the more ill she feels. So Mikah eventually gives herself completely to a life as Hero. Her life and voice fades completely away leaving only Hero. After Ch. 8 we do not hear from Mikah again until Ch. 36. But persevere....you will be so greatly rewarded!

Lady Hero Conagham...beautifully soft and golden...so angelic yet innocently seductive. Hero is kindness personified. She is run down and mildly injured by a horse drawn carriage (1856) at the same time Mikah is hit by a car in the year 2012.

Lord Ian Conagham is, at 30 years old, the new Marquise of Dun Cuilean. Ian is handsome, witty and intelligent. He is a gentleman first and foremost. He is gorgeous bronze perfection. He is not a romantic and doesn't believe love happens overnight.......or even within a weeks time. He believes in lust and desire absolutely.....affection...well, within reason. Because of his doubts on love, he's amazed at the deep, intense and profound emotions he feels for Hero upon meeting her. He is so completely besotted and bewitched by Hero that he's determined to woo and court her slowly as he's fearful that a quick seduction would frighten her off. So he tip-toes around his seduction of her while Hero wonders what he's waiting for! It's hilarious.

But Ian wants all of Hero....body, mind and heart. For the first time in his life, he refuses to take one without the rest. Ian feels as if he's known Hero his whole life even though he's just met her. He's seen her face a thousand times. When their passion is finally unleashed, it's intensely electrifying.

I absolutely adored Ian and Hero. This author describes Ian's love for Hero with unrestrained penned perfection. Theirs is described as a deep and true devoted love that could span centuries.... stuff of fairy tales and something that every person can only hope for.

This Author has an incredibly awesome talent of intricately describing a scene inch by delicious inch, allowing the reader to visualize events unfolding. I could see colors, clothing, and rooms described. I felt like I was there in the Castle with Hero. I so thoroughly knew these two characters that departing from them was painful. I didn't want to let them go. I bawled buckets. BUCKETS!

This story was a fantastic and amazing romantic plot complete with mystery and intrigue. And although mysteries are solved rather quickly and are somewhat easily predictable....this doesn't ever detract from the essence or substance of the story. There are no loose threads or holes...the story never disintegrates or ever feels disconnected.

Once again...Brava Ms. Fortin. Brava and Encore!

Slow to start, but very satisfying once you get through the first 60 pages
By JoAnn Jemmott
This is the third book of Angeline Fortin's time travel romance novels that I have read. I enjoyed the first one "A Laird for All Time" and thought the second novel "Nothing But Time" was even better. I didn't think I was going to like "My Heart's in the Highlands" because I did not become interested in the story until I was about 20% through it. I persisted on to the second section of the book only because I liked the first two books. Now I'm glad I stayed with it. I really loved the story from there to the ending. I thought the second book was more character driven. In "My Heart's in the Highlands" I was pulled into the emotional feelings and intimacy of the characters. It was a bitter-sweet, heart breaking love story with intensity, intrigue, desperation and redemption. The ending was well developed and satisfying. As with many of the rush to digital print books, editing and proofing errors were problematic.

Man Seeking Woman: And Other Love Stories, by Simon Rich

In "Center of the Universe", God struggles to balance the demands of his career with the needs of his long-term girlfriend. In "Magical Mr. Goat", a young girl's imaginary friend yearns to become more than friends. In "Unprotected", an unused prophylactic recalls his years spent trapped inside a teen boy's wallet. The stories in Simon Rich's new audiobook are bizarre, funny, and yet...relatable. Rich explores love's many complications--losing it, finding it, breaking it, and making it--and turns the ordinary into the absurd. With razor-sharp humor, and just in time for Valentine's Day, Rich takes listeners for an exhilarating, hilarious ride on the rollercoaster of love.

EH - Hits and Misses
By BAM10
This book is simple and overall entertaining, but misses the mark on about half of the stories. Some were VERY funny - I really enjoyed the missed dog connections, the condom story, and "I love Girl" to name a few. There were several that were really just sad and not even in a darkly funny way. "I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus" started with dark humor and ended with simple and depressing bitterness.

Good for some tastes maybe, but not one I'll re-read cover to cover. That being said - I will probably recommend for friends to borrow and read the few that were great, but will not suggest that they purchase the book.

Riffs on Relationships
By Gregory Zimmerman
You may have heard of Simon Rich -- he's a writer for Saturday Night Live (second youngest one ever), and he also frequently writes the Shouts & Murmurs column for The New Yorker. Hell, his Wikipedia page even calls him an "American humorist." Basically, his comedy credentials are well-established, even though dude's not even 30 yet.

In this collection of very short stories, Rich's goofiness is on full display. These 30 stories, each between one and five pages, are about the quirky, often absurd, nature of relationships. Generally, Rich starts with a stereotype or a simple kernel of assumed truth, and riffs it into an entire story. For instance, my favorite story in the collection "Magical Mr. Goat" is about what would happen if a child's "invisible" friend became real and started making uncomfortable advances. When the child fends him off, telling him they should just be friends, and that he'll find someone, the goat exclaims, "That's not true ... You're the only one who can even see me!" THAT's comedy!

Or, another story titled "Sirens of Gowanus" makes fun of dudes who overlook any red flags in a woman when she slows the slightest interest in him. In this case, the woman is a siren who will lure him to her island in the Gowanus Canal, and probably eat him. It had happened before. "You can't judge someone by their past relationships," the guy argues to his buddy. "Like okay, she killed Stanley. But how do you know what was going on between them? You weren't there."

"Center of the Universe" is about God dating a needy woman, who doesn't understand why he can't take time from his job of creating the world to spend more time with her. Yeah, some of these stories may annoy you.

The title story is about one of the last women on Earth, who is in a committed relationship, and who refuses to acknowledge that the President and Brad Pitt requesting "meetings" with her is not because they want to bed her, but only because she's smart and engaging. And she still becomes jealous of one of the other last women on Earth when she thinks the other woman hits on her boyfriend. Really funny!

There are a few duds -- stories in which the cornerstone idea may have just been better as an idea, not a whole story. Rich riffs off the idea that your exgirlfriend's next boyfriend is always evil -- and builds a story about a guy's exgirlfriend dating Hitler. Another story in a similar vein has a guy using a secret government invisibility serum -- and he's supposed to be finding a terrorist, but instead the guy uses his invisibility to stalk his exgirlfriend while she's on a date.

Overall, though, I'd definitely recommend these -- I read them over the course of three weeks or so, just a few here and there. They definitely don't require much mental bandwidth, and for the most part, they're clever, funny, and insightful. You'll definitely do a few "knowing nods," a few chuckles, and a few outright laughs out loud.

Collects ASM #602-605 with the Chameleon and the (eventual) return of MJ
By K. W. Schreiter
This slim hardcover collects Amazing Spider-Man issues #602-605 that were originally published by Marvel Comics in 2009. Written by Fred Van Lente and penciled by Barry Kitson, #602-604 completes the "Red Headed Stranger" story arc that started in #601. The plot centers on the sinister return of classic villain The Chameleon, who is much darker than in previous treatments. Peter Parker pursues a job in Mayor J. Jonah Jameson's press office (JJJ is now his step-brother) where he meets his old friend Glory Grant. Spidey also has to dodge the mayor's squad of retired S.H.I.E.L.D. Mandroids. Peter remembers Mary Jane Watson as his ex-girlfriend rather than his ex-wife, and MJ appears less frequently than the arc's title implies. The oversized, mildly interesting #605 collects three short auxiliary stories concerning Peter's love life. Marvel's list price of $19.99 for this hardcover seems very steep: this material probably should have been combined with that of the "Died In Your Arms Tonight" volume instead of being compiled into its own book. Be advised that as of December 2009, Amazon's description of this item lists the wrong issues, writers and artists for this product.

A Unique Exploration of Spidey's Relationship with His Girl
By MereChristian
Spider-Man: Red-Headed Stranger is a volume that is unique in that the entire story not only is focused almost exclusively on Mary-Jane Watson, the titular "red-headed stranger", instead of our web-slinging hero, but also in that Spidey hardly shows up at all in the narrative, except for a few scenes and a flashback here or there.

As the story begins, Peter Parker (Spider-Man) is thinking of how he has seen his ex-wife (or is it ex-girlfriend? ex-fiance? You really can't tell where the continuity is these days in some comics.), Mary-Jane for the first time in a while. She had moved out to LA for a successful career in acting, and then came back suddenly. He has no clue why, but it trying to figure it out.

Unfortunately, he has little time for this at first, as the Chameleon kidnaps and tries to kill him to steal his identity as Peter Parker. Now, it's not what you might assume. The Chameleon has no clue that Peter is really Spider-Man. It is Peter himself that Chameleon needs to imitate, in his new job as the photographer for newly-elected mayor J. Jonah Jameson. The super-villain is being paid by some very nasty terrorists to unleash a dirty bomb at NYC's secret anti-terrorism nerve center. The mayor's personal photographer just may be able to pick up clues to the location of this facility, the Chameleon reasons. Unfortunately, while Peter would normally evade any problems, he is so tired and distracted that his spider-sense can't warn him in time of the attack, and so he is kidnapped by the villain, and disposed of, in acid.

Because of this, for the rest of the volume, except for a comedic issue at the end, Peter is gone, and the Chameleon is Peter. This is not a problem as the whole "terrorism" angle from the Chameleon's employers is really a side-plot. The main plot is Peter Parker's life and relationships through the eyes of our Big Bad and others. Most of all, his relationship with "MJ" Watson, which is really complicated, to say the least. Though I will say that how Peter survived was really neat, though a bit contrived. It did work for his power-set, though.

The reason I liked this one was because the title fit in so many ways. MJ is a stranger to Peter after so many months. She, along with Harry Osborne and others, are strangers to the Chameleon, who feels bound to make Peter's former life (as Chammy thinks Peter's dead) to be better. That he feels bound to do this for all of his victims is part of his insanity, I think. And finally, MJ finds that she is a stranger to herself. She can't feel happy with the way her life is going, but can not put her finger on just WHAT she is searching for in life.

Surprisingly, though the above may sound rather angsty, it really wasn't. That seems to be the hallmark of the character of Spider-Man, in that he has so many issues and problems, but he doesn't wax melodramatic on them or wallow in them. Okay, he does wallow in them, but not in an unrealistic manner. In many ways, the story of how he authentically deals with his problems, as do those around him, reminds me of the current Batgirl series under writer Gail Simone. In some comics, the issues are all overly-angsty, with the characters almost basking in their problems. Not so here, where they are dealt with in a very sensitive, true-to-life way.

The only major problems I had with the issue were that Peter is kind of an idiot at times, and the political strawman in the form of J. Jonah Jameson. Peter is someone who has a gorgeous, smart roommate who is crazy about him, but he turns her down for dating. What? I can understand not wanting to take advantage of someone you don't love, or to deal with her sometimes crazy nature, that is not his reason as much as seemingly pining for Mary Jane. Not everyone gets their "true love" as the movies or romances put it. Sometimes, you have to take what you have, and his friend there would have been a great mate for him, instead of pining over someone else all the time.

Then there is the strawman. Jameson is made out to be a truly pathetic and vile caricature of the worst and most untrue portrayals of conservatives. If this is just the writers poking fun, then it is annoying, but I can take it. I like the show American Dad occasionally, so I can take a joke. But if I'm giving them too much of the benefit of the doubt, and they really do think this is how conservatives are, then it's kind of frightening that they can be so misinformed. They really might need to go see "fly-over country", and learn not to view their political adversaries with such hatred. If they want to poke fun, then they should do some halfway decent satire, and not cheap shots like the comic book writer version of schoolyard bullies.

Despite the above issues, this was a comic I really enjoyed, and I am looking forward to getting into Marvel Comics more in the future. I may never end up preferring it over DC (except for the movies, but that's another discussion), but I can see that it does have some quality stories.

"When I do find the Chameleon, I will hire him to be me ALL THE TIME."
By H. Bala
Fred Van Lente takes time out from his very cool INCREDIBLE HERCULES stuff to write a three-part Spidey arc featuring the Chameleon, and that, plus the last issue included here, would've merited this trade full marks if only the damn thing weren't so short. AMAZING SPIDER-MAN: THE RED-HEADED STRANGER collects issues #602-605 of the ongoing series, a mere four issues which I finished way too quickly.

The main adversary is the Chameleon who is back to his typical shenanigans, using his uncanny knack for mimicry and applying that face putty gun thingee of his, to flawlessly assume other people's identities. Before this story, I've pretty much dismissed the Chameleon as a forgettable poor man's Mysterio, so Fred Van Lente does something which past writers hadn't been able to do, which is elevate Chammy to a formidable and serious player in my eyes. The opening scene reveals how he disposes of his victims once he's mastered their voices and captured their likeness, and, honestly, I'm not too clued in on past Chameleon stories, but I don't recall the guy being this menacing or cold-blooded.

Possible SPOILERS now.

If you're not caught up to recent Spidey happenings, Aunt May has just tied the knot to J. Jonah Jameson's father (making J. Jonah and Peter into bickering brothers-in-law) and J. Jonah himself was elected Mayor of New York City. And it shouldn't surprise anyone that the new mayor's pet agenda is deploying his official Anti-Spider Squad to nab the webhead. But even J. Jonah's fixation on Spidey isn't enough to keep the city machinery from functioning. Case in point, the Office of Emergency Management has just established a "Shadow" Command Center, of which location is kept purposely undisclosed in the event of a terrorist attack. The Chameleon means to unearth this location and teach New York a lesson. To do this, he targets a photographer newly hired to the mayoral inner circle. He targets Peter Parker. And then he captures Peter Parker and adopts his identity.

The biggest elephant in the room, of course, is will the Chameleon stumble onto Peter's alter ego. It's also interesting to see how the Chameleon infiltrates Peter's life and we check out his reactions, puzzled and scornful but then bemused when, as Peter, he keeps running into Peter's lovely lady friends. This happens in issue #603 and this story, marked with the absence of the real Peter Parker, is noteworthy in that it examines Peter's relationships as seen thru the Chameleon's eyes. As such, Van Lente writes a pretty compelling story. I won't mention what the Chameleon does, except to say that he turns out to be a pretty complex cat and he surprised me a bit with his actions and words and his insights. And, just when you start thinking "Man, just how much dooodoo can this guy land Peter in?" the Chameleon ends up doing stuff to which later on Peter - who, was there any doubt, has escaped Chammy's trap - reacts wonderingly with: "When I do find the Chameleon, I will hire him to be me ALL THE TIME." But then later, later on, it comes around and Peter wants to moiderize him again. Some of the Chameleon's actions as Peter, particularly what he says to Flash Thompson, are bound to have uncool repercussions. But, certainly, there's plenty of humor in Peter trying to pick up the pieces of his life what got trampled on by the no-face master of disguise.

The big news for me, though, is finally the return of Mary Jane and it looks like she's here to stay for the foreseeable future. Yeah, I know, she'd already shown up in an earlier issue, catching the bouquet at Aunt May's wedding, but this is the first time she and Peter have a real interaction. In the double-sized issue #605, we at last learn what went down between Peter and Mary Jane, what caused their break-up and what MJ's been up since then. We also learn that MJ still knows that Peter is Spider-Man. But, like Pete, she doesn't remember the One More Day fiasco. Nothing earth-shaking happens between these two; it's too soon for anything to happen, if anything even will. In fact, MJ believes that Peter is now with someone else. And, yeah, again, if you're behind on your Spidey soap opera, then know that Peter accidentally slept with his incredibly bossy roommate Michelle.

The last chapter in issue #605 (there are three chapters) has Peter exploring the wacky world of online dating. Brian Reed writes a fun short story. And, again, that sad sack Parker luck comes into play.

I'm liking Fred Van Lente more and more as a Spidey scribe. He's got it all down, character development, interesting story arcs, and an element of fun and funny. I also like that J. Jonah sort of gets his comeuppance with regards to the Anti-Spider Squad. But, guys, seriously, you're missing out if you haven't checked out THE INCREDIBLE HERCULES, a series which Van Lente co-writes. Back to this trade, my main beef, as I've said, is that there isn't enough content to warrant paying the asking price. Four issues, even if the last one is double-sized, don't cut it for me and I'm a little steamed I shelled out for this (because I do have the original issues). And I guess I'll also mention that the artwork comes and goes, the inconsistency being brought about by not having one artist handling the artistic chores. Other than that, this trade is really good.

Sherlock with a Big Twist..
By Wm Ocean
I didn't even notice this was Sherlock the "V" or 4th until I read it and realized this was a descendant of Sherlock Holmes who lives in Miami on South Beach. It's quite a different re-imagination of the whole concept of Sherlock. I especially like the idea of the irascible unseen cook, Chef Hilario, who never leaves the kitchen at Fleming House. It would be fun to see a TV series like this. Current up to date Sherlock. I liked it very much, Will buy more just to revisit the crazy cast!

Out to the sticks
By fufasalg
This adventure takes Holmes out to the sticks -- up in Central Florida where big Lake Okeechobee is. There's been a murder and Holmes leaves South Beach with Watson to solve it. I've been to this area of Florida and the writer really captures the feeling of it with the fish camps and restaurants serving up fried food. So "country."

And an amusing story that has a fresh twist at the end.

She does it again!
By Jessica Sotelo (Angie & Jessica's Dreamy Reads)
***Contains spoilers and bad words!***

First off, to state the obvious... there are some authors that can nail a story line but their writing is just subpar. Then there are those with beautiful writing style and ability but their stories fall flat. It pretty much goes without saying, that Ms Tarryn Fisher kicks the shit out of both.

I stalked Amazon (like everyone else) last night waiting for this book to go live, but as the release closed in, I started panicking, asking myself if I could really handle another Opportunist right now. I'm fairly certain I have PTSD from the Opportunist, I read it forever ago and I still clearly remember how screwed up I was (am) over how that one went. I wasn't sure if I could handle that kind of brain anyeurism right now... and so close to a holiday. (I'm not being dramatic... I lost a Thanksgiving once because of Twilight... don't judge me.) Anyhoo... I jumped in feet first immediately and allowed the mindf**k to commence.

From word one, I was cursing out loud. A baby? A freaking baby? Well, there went my hopes for a Caleb & Olivia happily ever after. You can't mess with a family once a baby is involved. No matter how screwed up Leah is, no matter how unbelievably vile a mother she is, Caleb is too much of a stand up guy to bail on mother and baby. And Olivia is off married to sexy Ghandi (HA!) So of course, I jump to the conclusion that I am now being set up to give up my hopes of a Caleb/Olivia reunion and will eventually come to embrace Leah. She begins to show some redeeming qualities, albeit teeny weeny ones, but redeeming nonetheless. I think I have Tarryn Fisher pegged... she's obviously giving everyone their happily ever afters, despite the fact that Olivia and Caleb have gone their own ways, Leah is learning and growing and healing and she is going to be the mother and wife she ought to be. All is right with the world. Everyone deserves to be happy and these characters are getting there's!

Wrong.

About 70% in (though why it took me this long, I do not know) I realize that this is f-ing Tarryn Fisher. Tarryn Fisher does not do happily ever afters. Tarryn Fisher does not do rainbows and sunshine and freaking puppies. Tarryn Fisher thrives on screwing with the brains of her readers, apparently me specifically. Tarryn Fisher is not going to make a man stay in a bad marriage just because there's a baby involved. And even if Leah redeems herself enough to make me like her and wish for her happy ending, Tarryn Fisher will swoop in and screw with that too. I'm not sure I even like Tarryn Fisher right now.

My turning point: Enter Seth. I'd like to say I called that, but I'd be lying. With those telling words, the second Seth dropped that little bomb, I felt myself gasp for air (not joking. it was loud.) I seriously thought, 'NO FREAKING WAY, I know how this ends!' Yeah, not so much...I STILL went back and forth so many times before the end, thinking I was wrong, then knowing I was right, then knowing I could be wrong... the uncertainty never ends...

Dirty Red is a rollercoaster, but a completely different ride then The Opportunist. Where The Opportunist was the Zipper... Dirty Red is The Teacups on crack. And Tarryn Fisher is the evil carnie giggling as she makes you spin out of control and then puke. You think you know where you're going, but in pure Tarryn Fisher style, you don't even know which end is up...

Whoa and super wow!
By Amazon customer
I must say I am UTTERLY impressed that Ms. Fisher gave us a book, book 2 in her series of 3 that is devoted to the hateful character of Leah. No way, I thought to myself as I began to read, how will I possibly stay riveted to that awful woman's nasty little POV?? And yet here I am to tell you it was a hell of a ride! I thought this could get to be the cliche story of the spoiled rotten souled little rich girl, but it never quagmires there, which is an amazing feat. We actually follow her totally shocking, unhappy, nutty, insecure bratty train of thought laughing at her, rolling our eyes with her, half the time despising her then feeling sorry for her. Leah's story is very stifling (and yeah I needed serious oxygen while reading about this train wreck!) story is integral to the epic hurricane that is the relationship of Caleb and Olivia. We get to see Leah hatch her nasty little plots to hold onto her man, it's actually a relief to see her and Caleb's hollow and dreary relationship thru her eyes because it looked all sparkly and fab in book 1 thru Olivia's eyes and I found that upsetting to be honest!

Leah is coming to grips with her life and screwed up choices and needs to grow up. Getting to that point is a long long haul for her, that still doesn't really happen here, but it's a helluva ride! The revelations and twists and turns abound of course that keep you screaming at your kindle for more like a crazy person. By the way I LOVED the humor in this book, so many bits dropped in book 1 come up here- Nancy Grace is Olivia's hero, here Leah despises her but watches her when Olivia's name comes up on her show then becomes a big fan...woohoo! And bravo Ms. Fisher, in the space of a page+ she makes a heartstopping reveal about Leah and Seth, Caleb's brother, where Seth comes off as very intriguing and I find myself rooting for these two!!! HOly cow! What's come over me?? This is not a typical romance read. This is the hell of Real Life in all its tough, random bitterness, it makes or breaks you, so will you finally fight for your truth or no!??!! OH! Pass me more Taryncrack and right the F now!!!!! Onto book 3!

It's finally here - and I LOVED it!!
By Book Nerd
Full disclosure time: I love Tarryn Fisher. I'm a fan...no, I'm a fangirl. I was so wrecked emotionally after reading her first book that I contacted her on FaceBook, and she was kind enough to answer all my questions (even though she was probably wondering "who IS this crazy woman that is ranting and raving about my book??"). Then she sent me a friend request. Then one day she asked me to be a beta reader for this book, and that pretty much sealed the deal - I will love her forever. If there is a female equivalent to bro-mance I am in it with her. I think she is BRILLIANT, she's gorgeous, her wit is sharp enough to give a ginsu knife a run for its money, and her writing is genius!

All that being said, if the book sucked, I would tell you. As much as it would pain me, if it disappointed me in the least, I would be honest about it. I was prepared to be disappointed - I really had no idea how she could live up to the emotional firebomb that she had already written (and so many "middle books" in a trilogy just don't live up to the expectations created by the first book) - BUT, I absolutely love this book!! It is AMAZING!!!

I hated Leah in The Opportunist. HATED. With passion generally reserved for 3rd world dictators and people who don't tip their servers. When I read The Opportunist I thought it was a stand-alone book, and I was emotionally devastated at the end of it!! When I found out it was the start of a trilogy I was thrilled - maybe I would get my HEA after all!! When Tarryn told me book 2 was from Leah's point of view I was incensed! "Really, Tarryn," I thought..."REALLY...does anybody actually want to read from this evil witch's POV??" But she asked us to trust her,and I tried...I didn't believe that she could make me love this book, but holy crap, she pulled it off!!!

First off, the writing (no surprise) is genius. Tarryn's words are just so vivid, so powerful, so unique. And she knows exactly how to manipulate the reader's emotions - without it being artificial at all. One moment I was laughing, the next rolling my eyes in disgust, then suddenly my heart was aching...I really can't explain how she does it...I think she is a wizard. You will feel what she wants you to feel - fight it if you insist, but just know that you will lose. It's beautiful, heart-wrenching, gut-twisting magic that she weaves, and I loved every. single. word.

The characters - ugh - I love them, I hate them, I love to hate them, and hate to love them...they are the most flawed characters that I have ever related to, and I ache for their pain...and I want to slap them when they do horrible things...and I want to shake them and make them realize their mistakes. In general, I feel the same way for them that I do for many "real" people...these people feel real.

The story is fan-freakin'-tastic! For me, this book was an anti-romance novel! I was hoping and longing for the main characters to break-up just as much as I normally hope and long for them to get-together!! The emotional intensity was exactly the same! I was clinging to each hint that it might be coming, my heart jumping at the possibility, the excitement building! I've never experienced anything like this before, and never would have thought it would work! I really thought she would have to make me love Leah in order for the book to work for me...but I still don't love Leah, and the book worked PERFECTLY! Don't worry Leah lovers (all 5 of you - lol) you will love this book too! That's the beauty of it - I can't explain it right without including spoilers, just trust me...no, better yet, trust Tarryn - she knows exactly what she is doing and the rest of us are just along for the ride!!

This book joins The Opportunist at the very top of my all-time favorites list! Go get it. Do it now!
